It tells the story of a remarkable life, a remarkable period in British theatre history, and how the two intertwined as Richard established the profession of lighting designer in the UK, became a theatre producer, and then established the profession of theatre consultant through his work on the National Theatre, the Barbican Centre, the Royal Exchange in Manchester, and countless others around the world.

A Theatre Project is the perfect companion to A Sense of Theatre, Richard's book about the creation and history of the National Theatre.
